Sites in Mooresville, NC, Waynesboro, VA awarded certificates

Berry Global's first two nonwovens manufacturing sites in North America have achieved the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS designation to support its growing North America based customer demand for more sustainable solutions.

The company’s facilities in Mooresville, NC and Waynesboro, VA have been awarded the certificate from SCS Global Services. Both facilities manufacture spunbond, spinlace, and spunmelt nonwovens for use in product applications such as baby diapers, feminine care, adult incontinence and wipes. The newly certified sites are complementary to the company’s Nashville, TN location, which manufactures films for the same markets.

“As brands announce their respective sustainability goals, they are looking for safe and reliable methods by which to integrate circular materials. Through this certification, we increase transparency of our supply chain and expand our offerings of sustainable materials to our customers striving to meet their goals,” says Paul Harmon, VP Product Development and Management at Berry Global.

ISCC PLUS Certification allows Berry to bring in-demand certified circular products to market, presenting customers with options for advanced recycled materials on a mass balance basis to meet their sustainability goals; isompatible across multiple product lines, which allows customers the potential to leverage Berry’s broad expertise across a number of manufacturing processes for certified resin and validates the “mass balance approach,” tracking the quantity or recycled and/or renewable content in the value chain based on verifiable bookkeeping with predefined transparency requirements.

Through the addition of these sites, Berry has a total of 56 manufacturing facilities across three continents which boast the ISCC PLUS certification.

This Berry certification is an important step toward delivering on growing consumer expectations in transparency of its purchases. With the ISCC PLUS certification, Berry can produce products substituting up to 100 percent of the virgin resin with certified circular polymers on a mass balance basis, delivering identical material performance as virgin feedstock.
